MakeMyTrip and Yatra.com: Fighting tooth and nail for 2nd Place in the Top Travel eCommerce (B2B) Category
ViziSense releases its web rankings for the Top 5 Sites by Category for August 2009


September 16th, 2009 (Mumbai, India) - ViziSense (www.vizisense.com), India’s leading online audience measurement and analytics platform, today released its monthly web rankings of the Top 5 Sites by Category. Among the notable trends during August were:

  • MakeMyTrip and Yatra finish close for 2nd place in the Top Travel eCommerce (B2B) Category.
  • Web portals Rediff and Indiatimes make increasing gains since July.
  • Shaadi.com inches closer to Bharat Matrimony’s reach.
  • Sports sites see a huge dip in traffic as cricket fever dies down in August.
  • SBI Bank and Carwale experience some of the highest increases in month-on-month traffic.

Travel eCommerce (B2B):
Travel websites continue to build momentum and witness a healthy increase in traffic in August. While IRCTC’s Online Passenger Reservation System enjoys the highest reach of 4.07M unique users, MakeMyTrip and Yatra.com traffic numbers report a difference of just 50,000 unique users – could this mean that the rapidly growing Yatra would soon climb to the No. 2 spot within the Travel category in coming months? Leading OTA Cleartrip.com also saw a jump of 22% in reach since July.

Web Portals:
Since July, Rediff and Indiatimes are the only web portals to see an almost equal percentage increase in traffic to their websites. Rediff, although, has reason to see this growth given their recent homepage redesign and the on-going TVC promotion.

Matrimonial:
While some sites in the Matrimonial category experience a double-digit percentage increase in traffic; the gap between Bharatmatrimony and Shaadi continues to reduce with Bharatmatrimony dipping by 6.87% and Shaadi increasing by 10.42% since July.

Sport sites continue to witness a beating for the second time in a row as percentage changes in traffic decrease to almost half of July’s traffic numbers. Sify Sports finds its way into August’s Top 5 Sports Sites.

Banking & Auto:
Across categories, SBI Bank reports the highest percentage change in traffic with an increase of 65.82% since July! It has pipped HDFC Bank to claim 2nd place in the Banking category. Sites in the Auto Category continue to see a surge in traffic, with Carwale still reining No. 1 for the third month in a row. Carwale.com increased traffic on site by almost 70% over July.
